POKOTABI / Ohako
十八番(おはこ)
At Ohako in Yamatocho, Nakano Ward, enjoy bamboo-pressed, flat-cut noodles across ramen and tsukemen, paired with beer, fried chicken, and dumplings ordered from just a single piece.
01 / ABOUT THE PLACE
Hanging its curtain along Kannana-dori, Ohako centers on homemade noodles worked with a thick green-bamboo pole. Pressed and cut flat, these noodles take on a resilient chew and an irregular crimp that easily carries the house broths, from a clean soy-sauce soup simmered on chicken frames and pork bones to a sweet-and-sour dipping broth. The selection lets you savor that toothsome texture and smooth glide in diverse ways, whether through straightforward classics like ramen and tsukemen or a vegetable-packed tanmen.
Flexible side orders complement the bowls nicely. House-wrapped gyoza, shumai, and Japanese fried chicken appear both on standard sharing plates and as petite orders of just 3 piece, so you can tailor the meal to your appetite. A cold beer or lemon sour alongside crisp, aromatic pan-fried dumplings makes an easy prelude before finishing with a bowl of dipping noodles.
Beyond noodle soups, the kitchen turns out satisfying rice plates such as gomoku fried rice and mapo rice bowls, as well as stir-fries like fragrant liver and garlic chives tossed with crunchy bean sprouts. Counter and table seating accommodate quick solo meals or relaxed dining with family and companions over shared dishes. The shop operates for lunch and dinner; payment is strictly cash only, so keep notes and coins ready when visiting.
